The Friggin' Kisima Awards

So now, who won the so-called version of our Grammies?

We need to know what happened during the Kisima awards..the losers, the winners, the drama, the performances, the disses et al. Being out of Kenya currently makes the sources of such info harder to come by.

The Kisima Awards website is too ghetto and to think that someone is / was actually paid to put together and update the site? (3Mice must have pushed this one to the accounts guys to put together!). What I'm I supposed to do on that website? "Vote who I think should spearhead the fight against piracy?". Your site gets 5 mikes for usability...yeah, usability retardedness!

Oh wait! Those news whores - The Nation and The Standard - are waiting for the weekend (all in the spirit of timeliness, just like the word "News" suggests...) to unleashe the news on their premium content magazine sections - and after making us wait so long, ask us to chomoa cash to get information that is already wrapping today's nyama at the local butchery

Kisima Awards Trust - style the fuck up and update your website with the winners and the happenings of the awards. I am guessing the organizers awarded their cronnies, mates and bosses as usual. Yay, that's what we want to read about.
And the next time you need a website done, dont take your broke-asses to 3Mice!

Entertainment Media/ Media houses - news was not called olds for a reason. Do your job. We will do ours and read the crap you put out to us (an eon later...) and then blog to bitch about it.

Anyone with updates on the Awards, tafadhali hola and update distant folk on what unfolded. Did Amani win Best Newcomer? Did they give Redsan a Lifetime Achievement Award? Did 3 artists manage to scoop all the awards up for grabs, thus rendering the seemingly democratic voting process faker than a 30 dollar bill? Oh what tangled webs they weave....

Arrgh! Makes me want to re-enact the above scene from "Office Space"!

UPDATE
Here is a list of winners, in case you didnt catch them...kudos to all who won.

As much as I think Nameless is a great artist and totally respect his work, persona and professionalism, the Male Artist of the Year honestly should have gone to Jua Cali, who has grown to great extremes as a lyricist, an artist and a professional.

The dudes at Campusvybe.com had a so-so pictorial of the Kisima Awards that was put up here - at least we get to see some pics

And on that note, I have officially ceased to care about these Awards. Not until next year at least..

Currently Listening to:
India.Arie - Wings Of Forgiveness
Nameless ft. Nyashinski - Jidai
Kirk Franklin - Imagine Me
Injili - Nisamehe
Crossfade - Cold (Acoustic Version)

Like you i couldn't wait to get on the kisima website to see the winners. I thought briefly about emailing to inform them that results should actually be posted as they're being announced but figured they knew what they were doing.

Movie Buff: Hey hey boo..at least you watched "Office Space"...That movie's a classic! Pendad them playing the rap classic "Damn It Feels Good To Be a Gangsta" as they demolished that printer! Felt like doing that today! Si they tell us who won, such kubaffs...India is heavily rotating on my playlist, totally enjoying her new CD...soulful like that ;-)

Kagz: As much as he just talks over the songs, you have to admire his musical genius...loving his new CD as well..

Aco: 3Mice felt sweet for their clients and employees a long time ago and still feel necessary to act all hoity toitty and shit to the web community...their fall is coming, Kukubo and his band of fascist pigs!
The bit about Amani & Redsan...that was me being über sarcastic, hehe! Redsan is all "I only sing ragga in incoherent Jamaican street dialects I dont understand!!" - kwenda! Amani..should have stopped with the stuff she churned out in "Ogopa 1", that was awesome. These Kenyan music awards have also been known to give "New Artist" awards to artists who have been recording for like 5 years ! Wonder who won the "River Road" category - I respect those folks coz they are the only ones who make real cash from real sales of their music - unlike a lot of their "boomba" one-hit-on Capital-and-a-bad-video-to-boot wonder counterparts...

Rista: I also emailed...lakini if they havent updated the website, I am not holding my breath for my email to be replied to.

Msanii: dawg - was nice to see Ukoo Flani win something..those cats are poetic like that...plus I like their fusions of rap, poetry and a ka-neo soulish sound (e.g. in "Mo Fire"). Dunno abt STL though..wacha we see that full list when they chomoa it.
See Redsan comments above.

Have watched Office Space about 4 times in the past 4 yrs & it still kills me with laughter. I was impressed with how the dudes hit back their company.

The Awards? Yet another case of who's who in Kenya, favouritism at its best.

I've done a little something with Redsan's & Klepto's tracks among a few others but am in no way convinced he's done much to deserve the award.

3Mice are old hat. Check out dotsavvyafrica.com. Those dudes are going places.

I for one no longer take the Kisimas seriously. The same guys win over and over again

Akiey: Office Space totally rocks, especially after a bad day in the office! The Redsan vibe was unserious (soma my earlier comment to Aco)

M: Have seen some of dotSavvys work and its rather impressive. Would be interesting to know what the setup, atmosphere and work culture there is like...
As for Kisima, I have updated the post and wachanad with that vibe completely now...
